Former foster home father sentenced to over six years for multiple child rapes
A man who cared for a 17-year-old in a Swedish foster home was convicted of seven aggravated child rapes and one sexual assault, receiving a six-year-six-month prison term.
Nova, a 17-year-old who had been placed in a foster home in Östergötland after leaving the Jehovah's Witnesses, reported that her foster-home father began touching her inappropriately while they watched a film. After the initial assault, the abuse escalated to multiple rapes, which she secretly recorded. The man, who had no prior convictions, was detained at the end of May.
Norrköping District Court sentenced him to six years and six months in prison for seven cases of aggravated child rape and one case of sexual molestation, emphasizing the victim’s vulnerable position. He denies the allegations. Nova did not live to see the verdict, taking her own life in June; her family has been informed. The local social services have reported themselves to the Ivo oversight body, acknowledging failures in handling the case.
