Former health minister Takács Péter fined by ethics board over GP remarks and vulgar messenger reply
The ethics committee reviewed four complaints and issued sanctions in two cases. One stemmed from a 2025 podcast where Takács Péter characterized the GP profession in a degrading way, which the board said could harm doctors' dignity and patient trust. The other involved a December 2025 Messenger conversation in which he responded to a father's complaint about heating problems with vulgar language, escalating the dispute. The board cited his public role as an aggravating factor but noted his later admission of inappropriate wording as mitigating.
The Central Ethics Committee of the Health Science Council's North-Budapest branch examined four complaints against former health state secretary Takács Péter, sanctioning him in two instances. In a podcast aired in the autumn of 2025, he described the general-practice career as a "leftover" field and used language the committee deemed demeaning to the entire profession, potentially undermining patient confidence. A separate case concerned a Messenger chat from December 2025, where a father contacting Takács about heating and lighting issues at Szent János Centrumkórház received a response filled with profanity, which the board said intensified the conflict.
The sanctions were heightened because the remarks received wide public attention due to his political prominence. Takács later acknowledged one outlet language was objectionable, and he plans to appeal the decision, stating he will donate any imposed fine to charity if the appeal succeeds. He also claimed the proceedings are a "conceptual" attack aimed at discrediting him and his political allies, accusing the media of diverting attention from other issues.
