Former Iași County Council president receives modest state compensation after lengthy legal battle

Cristian Adomniței was ordered by the Bucharest Tribunal to receive a modest sum in moral damages from the Romanian state, following his claim for compensation over a criminal case that ended in his acquittal.

Cristian Adomniței, who led the Iași County Council, filed a civil suit in August 2025 against the Romanian state, the Ministry of Finance and the DNA, seeking compensation for reputational harm, stress-related health issues, family difficulties and alleged career setbacks stemming from a criminal investigation that lasted nearly nine years. After the Court of Appeal in Galați definitively acquitted him in February 2024, the Bucharest Tribunal examined his claims and granted only a modest sum for moral damages, with interest accruing from 27 August 2025.

All other monetary demands, including those for lost allowances, credit difficulties and other personal losses, were dismissed as unfounded. The ruling, delivered on 7 October 2026, is not final and may be contested within a 30-day appeal window.
