Former IGB REIT interim CEO Elizabeth Tan dies at 42, prompting condolences

Elizabeth Tan, 42, the daughter of property tycoon Robert Tan and former interim chief executive of IGB REIT Management, died recently. She took over as interim CEO on 1 January 2024 after Antony Patrick Barragry retired, but relinquished the position in March 2025 due to medical issues and later resigned as an alternate director of IGB Bhd in January. IGB REIT Management issued a notice to tenants, partners and staff, offering condolences to her family and to Robert Tan, the executive chairman and major unitholder of the REITs.

CEO Chai Lai Sim conveyed the board’s sorrow in a statement. Tan’s career began after graduating with first-class honours in Business Administration from Cardiff University in 2004, joining the group’s subsidiary Mid Valley City Gardens and later serving as joint COO and head of operations/leasing at The Gardens Mall. The REITs own prominent properties such as Mid Valley Megamall, The Gardens Mall in Kuala Lumpur and The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey in Johor Bahru.
