Former interior minister Agnė Bilotaitė resigns from Lithuania's parliament
Conservative MP Agnė Bilotaitė has submitted a request to quit her Seimas seat, citing health and family reasons.
Agnė Bilotaitė, who served as Lithuania’s interior minister from 2020 to 2024 and has been in the Seimas since 2008, announced her resignation from parliament. She filed a written request with the Central Electoral Commission on Monday to terminate her mandate early, explaining that personal health and family needs could no longer be balanced with parliamentary duties. While she will remain a member of the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats, she will step back from active political work.
Bilotaitė thanked colleagues and staff, and noted that the vacancy will be filled by the next candidate on the party list, Kęstutis Masiulis. During her current term she served on the Committee on Legal Affairs, the Commission for the Control of Criminal Intelligence, chaired a temporary women’s group, and led a working group on sexual-harassment legislation.
Why it matters
The resignation triggers a mid-term seat change and highlights the personal pressures faced by senior lawmakers.
