Former Justice Minister Rachida Dati Faces Corruption and Influence-Peddling Trial
Rachida Dati, ex-minister of justice, was tried in Paris for alleged corruption and influence-peddling linked to a contract with Renault-Nissan’s former chief.
From 16 to 28 September, the Paris judicial court heard the case of former justice minister Rachida Dati, who is accused of corruption and influence-peddling. The charges stem from a legal-services agreement she signed with Carlos Ghosn, then head of Renault-Nissan, while she was also a member of the European Parliament. Prosecutors argue that Dati performed illegal lobbying work for the carmaker, violating French law.
Dati has denied any wrongdoing, describing the dossier as empty. The state prosecutor has requested a prison term of several years, including a period of confinement with an electronic bracelet, a monetary penalty, and a five-year ineligibility period. The court will deliver its judgment on 21 January.
