Bruce Baird, a former Australian Liberal politician, died at the age of 84.
Bruce Baird, aged 84, has died. He began his political career in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, representing the now-abolished seat of Northcott from 1984 for eleven years, then entered federal politics by winning the Cook electorate in 1998. He served nine years in Canberra before stepping down ahead of the 2007 election, paving the way for future prime minister Scott Morrison.
Baird was the father of former NSW Premier Mike Baird and journalist Julia Baird. Outside politics, he swam with the “Bold & Beautiful” squad that trained off Manly and Shelly Beach, where he was described as a much-loved community member.
