Former Liberal MP Peter Katsambanis passes away at 60

Peter Katsambanis, a veteran Liberal politician who held seats in both Western Australia and Victoria, died at 60. He was a key figure in the Greek-Australian community and served as president of the World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association from 2017 to 2021. In WA he represented the seat of Hillarys until his defeat in the 2021 election, and earlier he sat in the Victorian parliament for six years.

His wife Karalee posted a tribute calling him her soulmate and expressed gratitude to the heart-transplant team at The Alfred hospital. Liberal Party state director Simon Morgan and WA Opposition Leader Basil Zempilas both highlighted his dedication and impact on public life. A funeral will be held in Melbourne, with details to follow.
