Former Manitoba MP Inky Mark faces 38 charges after massive gun and explosives haul

Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced that former Manitoba MP Inky Mark was rearrested on Aug. 12, bringing the total number of charges against him to 38. The latest indictment follows a July 7 search of his residence near Dauphin, which yielded 445 firearms and 26.5 kilograms of explosives, far exceeding the amount licensed individuals may hold. Among the weapons were 295 stored unsafely, 10 prohibited guns and 11 restricted or prohibited firearms not registered to Mark, as well as an antique cannon and large quantities of ammunition.

Police also recovered more than $300,000 in cash, which Mark said came from local property sales. The additional 26 charges include further weapons-trafficking offences, possession of prohibited weapons with ammunition, tampered serial numbers and failure to report lost firearms. Mark, who served as a federal MP from 1997 to 2010 and previously as mayor of Dauphin, maintains he has been a lawful collector since the early 1970s, though some items are now illegal under newer gun laws.
