Former Melbourne gynaecologist Simon Gordon faces VCAT misconduct referral

Following a Four Corners exposé alleging that Simon Gordon repeatedly removed tissue and organs from women diagnosed with severe endometriosis despite minimal pathological evidence, the Medical Board of Australia referred him to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal for alleged professional misconduct. AHPRA had reopened past complaints, commissioned an expert panel, and requested extensive medical documentation.

Gordon retired after Epworth Hospital learned of the investigation and later withdrew from the national practitioner register. The tribunal has the authority to permanently bar him from future registration and from any health-care employment. In parallel, civil lawsuits representing hundreds of former patients claim lasting physical and psychological harm, while Epworth HealthCare has launched an external review of its clinical governance, though it does not cover Gordon's care. Advocacy groups are calling for a broader inquiry into endometriosis treatment standards.
