Former Methodist Ladies’ College teacher charged with child sexual assault

A former teacher at Melbourne's Methodist Ladies’ College has been charged with a sexual assault of a student under 17.

Victoria Police have charged former Methodist Ladies’ College teacher Kam Kenny-Jones with one count of sexual assault of a child under 17. The school received notice of the charge over the weekend and confirmed that concerns were raised in September, leading to his immediate suspension and subsequent termination. Principal Julia O’Shea sent an email to parents, stating the news was unsettling and that families should decide how to discuss it with their children.

A school spokesperson added that senior leaders have contacted parents of students who were taught by Kenny-Jones and emphasized the focus on student and staff wellbeing. The college declined further comment pending the court process. Kenny-Jones had taught years 7 to 12 for five years and previously worked at Vermont Secondary College.
