Former minister Agnès Pannier-Runacher says personal phone targeted by spyware
Agnès Pannier-Runacher confirmed that her personal mobile device was infected with espionage software and has lodged a formal complaint.
Agnès Pannier-Runacher, former minister of the ecological transition and current Renaissance deputy, confirmed that her personal smartphone was compromised by a spying program. She said the device was targeted twice during her ministerial tenure and again after she became a legislator. Apple sent her three distinct security alerts, the earliest in March 2025 and another in April 2025, each relating to a separate intrusion.
Following the notifications, she filed a complaint with the DGSI, which, along with the ANSSI, conducted a forensic analysis of the handset. The Paris public prosecutor’s office has opened a case handled by the J3 cyber-crime unit, though investigators have not yet pinpointed the source of the attacks.
Why it matters
The case underscores how high-profile officials can be vulnerable to sophisticated cyber-espionage linked to policy disputes.
