Former Missouri TV anchor admits killing mother on Halloween, cites delusions

Angelynn "Angie" Mock, 48, a former television news anchor who worked for stations in St. Louis, Oklahoma City, and other markets, entered a guilty plea to a count of first-degree murder for the killing of her mother, 80-year-old Anita Avers, on Oct. 31, 2025. Wichita police responded to the home around 7:50 a.m., finding Mock outside with cuts on her hands; Avers was rushed to a hospital with multiple stab wounds and later died.

In statements to authorities, Mock claimed she killed her mother because she believed the older woman was the devil and that the act would protect herself. Her stepfather reported that Mock had a history of mental illness, including delusions and depression. The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office announced the plea, which calls for life imprisonment with the possibility of parole after 25 years, and a sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 5.
