Former MNV chief among eight ex-executives investigated for overpricing Volánbusz purchases
Eight former managers, including ex-MNV CEO Szivek Norbert, have been accused of inflating prices for used buses bought by Volánbusz.
According to a statement from the Készenléti Rendőrség Nemzeti Nyomozó Iroda, eight former senior officials have been charged with misconduct related to the procurement of used buses for the Volánbusz network. Among them is Szivek Norbert, who led the Magyar Nemzeti Vagyonkezelő Zrt. from 2015 to 2018. Police conducted raids on residences and offices tied to the suspects, confiscating documents, contracts and extracting data from electronic devices.
Prosecutors claim the officials arranged purchases of over 600 buses at inflated prices, channeling the excess funds through intermediary companies and fictitious loan agreements to finance real-estate developments in Budapest’s XII and IX districts, as well as in Balatonvilágos and Törökbálint, and to acquire the Kecskemét headquarters at an excessive cost. The investigation also implicates billionaire developer Jellinek Dániel and his former associate Tiborcz István. Authorities describe the conduct as a serious breach of fiduciary duty and money-laundering, and the case remains open for further accusations.
