Former MoDem official Rémy Daillet and 14 co-accused face Paris court over child kidnapping plot
On Tuesday, Rémy Daillet, once a MoDem official in Haute-Garonne, sat in the Paris tribunal correctionnel alongside fourteen alleged members of his ultraright conspiratorial network. They face charges of criminal association with a terrorist enterprise and kidnapping. The most publicized act involved the April 2021 abduction of eight-year-old Mia Montemaggi in the Vosges by two men posing as educators, after which she was found five days later in a Swiss squat.
Authorities allege the kidnapping was financed by Daillet and intended to gauge the loyalty of combat groups ahead of a planned coup. Daillet had previously used his YouTube channel, followed by 35,000 subscribers, to advocate for a strong state and the possible overthrow of the government, either peacefully or by force. The trial also includes a mother, Lola, who is the only woman among the accused.
