Former NJ mayor and husband charged with forging signatures to enter Democratic primary
Former Lumberton Township mayor Gina LaPlaca and her husband Jason Carty have been indicted for forging petition signatures to place LaPlaca on the June Democratic primary ballot.
The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office charged former Lumberton Township mayor Gina LaPlaca and her spouse Jason Carty with forging supporters’ signatures to secure LaPlaca’s spot on the Democratic primary ballot. Investigators allege the couple listed individuals on the petition and signed for them without permission, a step that was necessary to meet the signature threshold. LaPlaca, who previously faced a DUI arrest with a.30% blood-alcohol level, received only 323 votes, placing her behind Terrance Benson and Kendra Hatfield.
She is accused of making false statements under oath, filing false petitions and multiple counts of tampering with public records; Carty faces similar charges. Their initial hearing is scheduled for September 21 in Superior Court, Mount Holly. The case follows earlier allegations of domestic violence and voter intimidation made by LaPlaca during the campaign.
