Former NSW police minister David Elliott vows legal action over alleged slander

David Elliott told investigators he believes fugitive developer Jean Nassif helped orchestrate his 2021 removal and he may sue those spreading defamatory remarks.

At an ICAC hearing, former NSW police minister David Elliott asserted that fugitive property developer Jean Nassif played a role in his dismissal during a 2021 cabinet reshuffle, linking the move to Nassif’s 2019 cocaine possession arrest. Elliott recounted that Nassif approached him on two occasions and left a voicemail threatening to "get" him, and that surveillance photos of his wife had been taken. He indicated he will discuss with his lawyer the possibility of legal action against unnamed individuals he believes have made slanderous statements.

Elliott also claimed that some members of the Liberal shadow ministry continue to aid corrupt activities, referencing allegations involving Chris Rath and Damien Tudehope. He declined to seek Liberal preselection for the Castle Hill seat, citing factional branch-stacking. The inquiry also heard of a “David Elliott shit sheet” compiled by party operatives to damage his reputation.

Why it matters

The allegations highlight ongoing internal disputes and corruption concerns within NSW’s ruling party.
