Former Oklahoma senator Mullin defends ICE, clashes with NYC mayor over activist's criticism
Former Oklahoma senator Tom Mullin defended ICE and rebuked the New York City mayor after activist Amira Mamdani called the agency ‘rotten to the core.’
During a heated press briefing, former Oklahoma senator Tom Mullin argued that the mayor’s political tone was harmful and called for the release of 28-year-old Oscar Belgal, a wounded suspect identified by NYPD. Mullin said he spent two hours with activist Amira Mamdani, who insisted ICE agents be removed from New York and demanded Belgal’s release. He added that President Donald Trump had spoken with the mayor and proposed transferring Belgal to NYPD custody, a suggestion Mamdani rejected.
Mullin accused the mayor of ignoring criminal activity and not standing up for NYPD officers who protect him daily. He defended ICE, saying its agents enforce the nation’s laws and target the “worst of the worst.” He warned that abolishing ICE would leave the city without a means to remove criminals from its streets.
