Former partner of Κυριακή Γρίβα faces murder trial as police conduct separate case

Today the Mixed Criminal Court commenced a second-degree trial concerning the murder of 28-year-old Κυριακή Γρίβα, whose ex-partner, a 40-year-old man, had previously received a life sentence and a five-year term for homicide, weapon offenses and drug possession. The judges unanimously held him fully culpable, dismissing arguments that mental illness, medication, or alcohol impaired his awareness of the crime. The defense is expected to argue severe psychopathy, a claim the victim’s family rejects.

Concurrently, a distinct case has been filed against four police officers - the service chief, a patrol officer, a guard at the Αγίων Αναργύρων police station, and a dispatcher who told the victim a patrol car was not a taxi - for alleged fatal omission after the victim sought help. The court will hear both matters separately.
