Former pilot Greg Lynn seeks bail before retrial in murder case of camper Carol Clay
Greg Lynn, a 60-year-old former airline pilot, will ask the Victorian Supreme Court for bail ahead of a retrial on the murder of 73-year-old camper Carol Clay.
Former airline pilot Greg Lynn, 60, will seek release from custody in a bail application before Chief Justice Richard Niall of the Victorian Supreme Court on Thursday. Lynn has consistently denied killing 73-year-old camper Carol Clay, who vanished with 74-year-old Russell Hill during a March 2020 camping trip in the remote Wonnangatta Valley of Victoria’s High Country. After a 2024 trial, Lynn was found guilty of Clay’s murder but cleared of Hill’s death; however, a three-judge Court of Appeal later overturned the conviction, citing a substantial miscarriage of justice caused by unfair prosecutorial actions.
The appellate panel ordered a retrial, which is scheduled to begin in May next year before Justice Michael O’Connell. Lynn, a father of three, will argue for bail while awaiting the new proceedings, continuing to claim the couple died in an accident.
Why it matters
The case underscores concerns about prosecutorial fairness and the integrity of high-profile murder trials.
