Former police officer on trial for murder after alleged home invasion of TV presenter

Former NSW police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon is on trial for two murders and a prior break-in at Jesse Baird’s home after Baird rejected his invitation, and he has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

In a NSW Supreme Court trial, former police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon faces two murder charges for the February 2024 shootings of former Network Ten presenter Jesse Baird, 26, and Qantas flight attendant Luke Davies, 29. Prosecutors allege that after a casual relationship ended, Lamarre-Condon broke into Baird’s Paddington share house in August 2023, stealing his wallet and mobile phone, and later used a Glock pistol to kill both men, allegedly to silence a witness.

The Crown presented text messages showing Baird’s lack of interest in a proposed catch-up and a bobby-pin left in the lock as evidence of forced entry. Defence counsel argues Lamarre-Condon entered disguised as a delivery rider, that a struggle caused the gun to fire twice, killing Baird, and that Davies shot himself accidentally. Senior constable Dana Schagen testified about the exchanged messages and reported a phone call in which Lamarre-Condon claimed “not everything in the news is true.” The accused has pleaded not guilty to all counts, and the trial continues.

Why it matters

The case underscores concerns about domestic violence, abuse of police training, and the handling of high-profile murder prosecutions.
