Former Police Scotland officer convicted of multiple sexual offences including rape

A Glasgow High Court jury delivered a verdict against former Police Scotland officer Campbell Petrie, 50, on nine sexual-offence counts, two of which were rape. Additional convictions covered indecent assault, assault with intent to rape and assault causing injury or danger to life, all committed between 2006 and 2023 during his police service. Petrie was taken into custody and charged after an arrest in December 2023, which also led to his suspension from duty.

He formally retired from the force in December 2025. The court has remanded him in custody, and a sentencing hearing is scheduled for the following month. Police Scotland emphasized its commitment to investigating officers, whether active or retired, who commit such crimes.
