In a detailed briefing, former DHS deputy chief of staff Miles Taylor described a scheme by president Donald Trump to request FBI raids on election offices in key battleground states ahead of the 2026 midterms. He referenced a prior operation in Fulton County, Georgia, where agents seized 656 boxes containing the only 2020 ballot copy, and a comparable effort in Arizona’s largest county. Taylor argued that the strategy focuses on generating a pretext for future warrants, especially after the Justice Department’s unsuccessful lawsuits over voter-list data.
He cautioned that such seizures could stall certification of results, fuel voter anxiety, and give Republican congressional leaders a reason to delay seating new members. According to Taylor, the ultimate goal is to shape the court of public opinion during the period between the November election and the January convening of Congress.
