Former Real Madrid youth players receive suspended one-year sentences for child-porn case, teammate acquitted

In a case stemming from a 2023 video recorded in Gran Canaria, former Real Madrid academy players Ferrán Ruiz, Juan Rodríguez and Andrés García accepted a one-year prison sentence that will be suspended provided they commit no further offences for two years and attend a sexual-sensitisation program. The victims, one of whom was 16 at the time, testified that they forgave the four men, prompting the court to drop the charge against first-team defender Raúl Asencio, who was therefore acquitted.

The prosecution had originally sought four years and seven months for the three ex-players and two and a half years for Asencio. The magistrate, Virginia Peña, cited the defendants’ clean criminal records and personal circumstances in granting the suspension. The three men must each pay the legal costs, face a two-year restraining order concerning the victim, and are barred from any work involving minors for three years. Asencio also escaped any financial penalties.
