Former Red Sox manager Joe Morgan dies at 95, remembered for two division titles

Joe Morgan, the longtime Boston Red Sox figure who guided the team to AL East titles in 1988 and 1990, died at 95 on Saturday night. He assumed the managerial role on July 14, 1988, immediately leading the club to a 12-game winning streak and a division championship before falling to the Oakland Athletics in the ALCS. A second division crown followed in 1990, after which the Red Sox were again swept by Oakland.

Morgan’s overall managerial record stood at 301-262, and he spent 18 years with the organization as a player, coach, scout and manager. The Red Sox released a statement expressing deep condolences and highlighting his lasting impact on the franchise. He is survived by his daughter Catherine, sons Joseph Jr. and William, daughter Barbara, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
