Former rideshare driver sentenced to a year for assaulting passenger in Adelaide

In Adelaide Magistrates Court, former Uber driver Muhammad Uzair Ehsan, 35, was convicted of two indecent assaults on a female passenger who was intoxicated and standing at her unit’s front door. After a two-day trial, Magistrate Roderick Jensen sentenced him to 12 months in prison, with a non-parole period of eight months, back-dated to his custody date. The magistrate criticized Eshan’s lack of remorse and his refusal to accept the verdict, noting the victim’s trauma from repeatedly recounting the incident.

The victim incurred significant costs for counselling, security, and lost wages. Ehsan, a permanent resident, had his citizenship application rejected, and Uber confirmed he no longer has platform access. He will be eligible for parole in April 2027.
