Former Roth International executive sentenced to four years for illegal waste shipments
A former managing director of Roth International received a four-year-six-month prison term for organizing illegal waste transports to the Czech Republic and Poland.
A court sentenced the former managing director of Roth International to four years and six months in prison after convicting him of 30 illegal waste shipments to the Czech Republic and Poland. Prosecutors said the waste, totaling 760 tons of glass-fiber reinforced plastic and batteries, was dumped without the required permits in Jiříkov, Brno-Horní Heršpice and later transferred to Poland. A Czech citizen who helped coordinate the transports received a two-year suspended sentence.
German officials had detained the executives earlier, and the state prosecutor brought the case forward in March. The regional government of Horní Falce took responsibility for removing the waste, while the insolvent Roth International faces claims for the removal costs. The court also dismissed a separate charge of dangerous health injury against the former director.
