Former senior staff member sues Historic Environment Scotland over alleged racism and bullying

Historic Environment Scotland faces a new legal challenge as a former senior HR manager has taken the organization to an employment tribunal, alleging racial discrimination and systematic bullying. In a 12-page statement she claims senior staff sidelined her and interfered with a prior racism investigation involving former operations director Craig Mearns, who has since left. She further alleges a senior colleague asked if she was acquainted with minister Kaukab Stewart, suggesting an expectation that all Asian people know each other.

The filing accuses the executive team of being held to lower standards than other staff and prioritising senior wellbeing over victims. Historic Environment Scotland said it could not comment on the ongoing proceedings but affirmed that the allegations had undergone multiple reviews and investigations. The body reiterated its commitment to a respectful and inclusive workplace.
