Former St. John’s basketball star Wayne McKoy dies at 64
Wayne McKoy, a standout forward for St. John’s in the late 1970s, passed away at his Bayside home at age 64.
McKoy, who helped the Redmen reach the brink of the Final Four, died on Wednesday in Bayside. He amassed 1,534 points, averaged more than seven rebounds per game and set a school record with 164 blocked shots over 117 contests. Former teammate Frank Gilroy recalled first seeing McKoy in 1975 at a state tournament, describing his presence on the court as breathtaking.
