Former State Dept Official Accuses Trump of Aligning with Putin on Ukraine Policy

Ned Price told Nicolle Wallace that Trump’s praise for Stephen Hubbard’s release conceals a series of concessions to Russia, including sanctions waivers and urging the removal of Ukraine’s president.

In an interview with Nicolle Wallace, former State Department spokesperson Ned Price criticized President Trump’s approach to Russia, saying the president’s applause for the release of Stephen Hubbard hides a pattern of concessions. Price cited a recently announced diesel agreement, the suspension of sanctions and tariffs linked to a bipartisan bill, and Trump’s instruction for Ukraine to stop striking Russian oil and diesel refineries.

He added that Trump’s call for Ukrainian President Zelenskyy to resign aligns directly with Vladimir Putin’s longstanding demand. Price argued that these actions undermine intelligence sharing and technology support that Ukraine relies on for defense. One outlet contributor and Hudson Institute senior fellow Rebecca Heinrichs echoed the concerns, warning that U.S. engagement with Russia and China could erode collective pressure on Moscow.

Both speakers suggested that the United States should coordinate more closely with European allies to counter Russian aggression. The interview reflects mounting bipartisan outrage over the administration’s perceived cozy ties with the Russian leader.

Why it matters

The remarks highlight bipartisan fears that U.S. policy may be inadvertently aiding Russia in the Ukraine conflict.
