Former Swindon councillor used online ads to lure strangers for assaults on his wife
Philip Young, a former Tory councillor, pleaded guilty to dozens of sexual offences after drugging his wife and advertising her on Craigslist and other sites, while four other men stand trial for separate assaults.
Philip Young, who served on Swindon borough council from 2007 to 2010, pleaded guilty at Winchester Crown Court to almost 50 sexual offences against his wife Joanne, including rape, voyeurism and administering sedatives. Evidence showed he repeatedly drugged her with substances such as ketamine and zolpidem, and used photographs taken without her knowledge to advertise her on Craigslist, Grindr and other swinging sites, seeking strangers to assault her.
Four other men - Norman Macksoni, Connor Sanderson-Doyle, Richard Wilkins and Mohammed Hassan - are currently facing charges for separate assaults on Joanne spanning 2016 to 2023. Prosecutors emphasized that the defendants did not give the drugs, but the victim’s condition indicated their impact. The trial will continue for up to four weeks, after which Young and the other defendants will be sentenced.
