Former Tabung Haji chief Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim charged over alleged chairmanship deal
Former Lembaga Tabung Haji chairman Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim has been charged with using his position to obtain a paid chairmanship at Putrajaya Perdana Bhd.
Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, who led Lembaga Tabung Haji, was formally charged with abusing his office to obtain the chairmanship of Putrajaya Perdana Bhd, a role that pays RM690,000 annually and includes a BMW 7 Series with a driver. In court, he acknowledged the charge, denied the allegations, and requested a trial. The indictment states that he instructed Tabung Haji chief executive Tan Sri Ismee Ismail to put his name forward as the institution’s representative and swayed board members during a 2014 meeting to approve an investment of up to RM193.5 million, representing up to 30 % of the company’s share capital.
The alleged actions occurred in the Tabung Haji boardroom on Jalan Tun Razak. He faces charges under Section 23(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment and a substantial fine.
