Former teacher barred after giving student a hidden-camera pen and urging nudity
Matthew Udall, a 33-year-old ex-teacher in Warwickshire, received an indefinite teaching ban for handing a pupil a pen equipped with a covert camera and telling her to change clothes before using it.
A former British schoolteacher, Matthew Udall, has been permanently barred from teaching after a report revealed he gave a young female pupil a pen that contained a hidden camera and instructed her to undress before completing her journal entry. The Teaching Regulation Agency stated the July 2022 actions were driven by sexual motives and posed a risk of serious harm. Udall entered a guilty plea in 2024 to charges of inciting a child under 13 to partake in sexual activity and attempting to observe a private act.
While the girl noticed the camera and alerted a friend and another teacher, the panel highlighted Udall’s attempt to conceal the wrongdoing by telling her not to tell her parents. The agency found no proof that Udall showed insight or remorse, and he may challenge the ruling within 28 days.
