Former teammate says media miscast Sean Taylor after his fatal home shooting
A new Investigation Discovery documentary revisits Sean Taylor’s 2007 murder and features teammate Santana Moss arguing the press unfairly labeled the late safety as a villain.
Investigation Discovery’s docuseries "Game Day Murders" concludes with an episode titled "Blindsided by Tragedy," which revisits the 2007 home invasion that killed Washington safety Sean Taylor. While Taylor was recuperating from a knee injury, intruders entered his Palmetto Bay, Florida residence, mistakenly believing he was away; a confrontation led to a gunshot that severed his femoral artery, and he died the next day in Miami.
Former teammate Santana Moss argues that media coverage amplified earlier off-field incidents, casting Taylor as a criminal rather than the teammate he knew. The program also features remarks from Taylor’s brother Jamal Johnson and mother Donna Junor, and outlines the convictions of four men and a minor, with shooter Eric Rivera receiving a sentence of more than 57 years. Taylor’s legacy includes two Pro Bowl selections, a retired No. 21 jersey, and induction into the Washington Ring of Fame in 2021. The episode premieres Aug. 31 at 10 p.m. ET and will be available on HBO Max.
