Former Tiger Kirk Gibson hosts 10th annual golf fundraiser for Parkinson's support
Kirk Gibson's foundation staged its 10th charity golf classic at Wyndgate Country Club, drawing 228 participants to benefit the Parkinson's wellness center.
Former Detroit Tiger outfielder Kirk Gibson led his foundation’s 10th annual charity golf tournament at Wyndgate Country Club in Rochester Hills, attracting a full field of 228 golfers. Among the participants were Michigan State coach Tom Izzo, Lions great Calvin Johnson, former teammates Alan Trammell, Lance Parrish and Dave Rozema, as well as Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski. The event supports the Kirk Gibson Center for Parkinson's Wellness, the first free-program facility of its kind in Michigan, which opened in 2025 and recently unveiled a new 2,700-square-foot gym.
Gibson, a 69-year-old Waterford native diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2015, highlighted that the fundraiser has raised over $2.4 million across its first nine years. He pledged that the proceeds will further expand services for Michigan residents living with the disease. The gathering also featured Mia Hutchinson, sister of Lions star Aidan Hutchinson, signing the national anthem.
Why it matters
The fundraiser supports free programs for Michigan residents living with Parkinson's, a disease affecting over a million Americans.
