Former Ukrainian defense minister launches defense tech firm with Palantir chief backing
Ex-defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced a new defence-technology startup, with Palantir CEO Alex Karp as its lead investor.
Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine's former defence minister known for accelerating drone and other battlefield innovations, is starting a defence-technology company focused on supporting Ukraine and partner nations. The startup’s first major investor will be Alex Karp, the chief executive of Palantir, an American AI and data-intelligence firm. In a release, Fedorov said the venture will build on the unique insights his team gathered during the full-scale war.
He filmed a video with Karp at Palantir’s Washington office, where Karp praised the initiative as potentially world-defining. Fedorov’s exit from the ministry in July followed reported friction with senior commanders, including public criticism of Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi. Ukraine later appointed Yevhenii Khmara to replace Fedorov and promoted Maj. Gen. Mykhailo Drapatyi to the top military post.
Why it matters
The startup could shape Ukraine's defence capabilities and influence global military tech development.
