Former WA Nationals leader Max Trenorden remembered after his passing

Max Trenorden, former leader of the Nationals in Western Australia, died at 78 and was honored by party colleagues for his long service to regional communities.

Former Western Australian Nationals leader Max Trenorden died at the age of 78, prompting tributes from party figures at the state conference. Trenorden headed the Nationals between 2001 and 2005 and acted as deputy opposition leader under Liberal leader Colin Barnett in 2004-05. His parliamentary career began in 1986 when he won the Avon seat in the Legislative Assembly, later moving to the Legislative Council for the Agricultural Region until 2013.

After an unsuccessful independent run in 2013, he served on the Disability Board in Northam. Party president Paul Gillett, former leader Shane Love, and MP Lachlan Hunter all lauded his advocacy for the Wheatbelt and his support for the next generation of country representatives.
