Former Yayasan Bank Rakyat chairman refuses notice amid anti-corruption probe

The former chairman of Yayasan Bank Rakyat declined to accept a notice after filing an injunction, while his wife and assistant were questioned by SPRM over a RM10 million investment case.

Abd Halim Aman, the head of Malaysia’s anti-corruption commission SPRM, reported that former Yayasan Bank Rakyat chairman Nazir refused to take a formal notice, citing an injunction he filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court to halt a Section 36 directive. The incident unfolded at SPRM’s main office, where Nazir, accompanied by his wife and a personal assistant, were called to assist an investigation into alleged misappropriation and abuse of authority linked to a roughly RM10 million investment.

Statements from the wife and assistant were recorded over a period of about ninety minutes. Both women arrived at the agency around 11 a.m. and were released at 1:15 p.m.; the report does not specify if Nazir was also let go.
