Fort Hood dining hall launches limited-time alcohol sales for soldiers
Fort Hood’s 42 Bistro now offers beer, wine, cider and hard seltzer to eligible troops during set hours.
At the Fort Hood installation in Central Texas, the 42 Bistro dining hall has become the first U.S. Army venue to sell alcoholic drinks to enlisted personnel. The offering includes beer, wine, cider and hard seltzer, all priced at $6 per can or bottle, with selections like Bud Light, White Claw and craft brews. Lt. Col. Joseph Payton, speaking for III Corps, explained that the decision treats soldiers as adults while upholding responsible drinking standards.
Alcohol can be purchased only between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from noon to 7 p.m. on weekends. The initiative provides an additional dining option for eligible patrons but remains limited in scope and timing.
Why it matters
It marks the first instance of on-base alcohol sales, signaling a shift in how the military manages adult privileges and consumption.
