Forza Italia leaders clash over Capri event comments and party performance

A message from eurodeputy Fulvio Martusciello about a Capri gathering sparked criticism from minister Paolo Zangrillo, highlighting internal tensions in Forza Italia.

In a chat among Campania party members, eurodeputy Fulvio Martusciello announced that Antonio Tajani would be in Capri the next morning and described the ongoing programme as lackluster, mentioning a brief link from Environment Minister Pichetto. The post drew a sharp rebuke from Public Administration Minister Paolo Zangrillo, who highlighted achievements in his ministry and warned against taking the remarks at face value.

Also present at the Capri event were regional president Roberto Occhiuto, seen as a potential national leader, and Zangrillo himself. Martusciello later clarified that attendance was not confirmed and that he attended the conference without intending to offend anyone. At the Capri conference, Zangrillo urged a renewal of ideas, personnel, and leadership in Forza Italia, citing its 7 % support level, while Martusciello countered that the party’s share in Campania remains around 11 %.

Why it matters

The dispute reveals growing factionalism within Forza Italia ahead of upcoming elections.
