Darma Rural Municipality in Salyan is experiencing a scrub typhus outbreak that has resulted in four deaths and over 100 confirmed infections. Health posts report a daily increase of three to four new cases, prompting referrals to hospitals in Dang and Nepalgunj for advanced treatment. Yagya Bahadur Basnet, head of the municipality’s health section, noted the fatalities occurred in late August and later during hospital care.
To contain the spread, the municipality and the District Health Office have launched health camps and rapid-test drives, while health worker Tek Raj Bohara observed patient numbers rising from typical 15-20 to up to 30 daily. Officials warn against self-medication and advise residents working in grassy or forested areas to seek medical attention if fever persists.
