Four dialysis patients at Mian Channu hospital test positive for HIV

Four dialysis recipients at the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Mian Channu have tested positive for HIV, prompting their referral to Nishtar Hospital in Multan for specialized treatment. Hospital administrators noted that over 60 patients are currently on dialysis at the centre and asserted that the virus is not transmitted via dialysis equipment, while they investigate the outbreak. Three of the infected individuals are women.

Local sources claim that more dialysis patients might also be HIV-positive, but the hospital has not verified additional cases. This incident follows previous HIV infections linked to dialysis units in Punjab, including a notable outbreak at Nishtar Hospital in 2024 and subsequent government actions against officials. The Punjab AIDS Control Programme continues to provide free testing and treatment across the province.
