Four family members killed in Waterford arson linked to €20,000 drug debt
Four people, including two children, were fatally burned in a Waterford home after a gang targeted the family over a €20,000 drug debt, while two other children remain critically injured.
Investigators allege that a Waterford drug gang ignited a petrol bomb at a Birch Avenue residence, resulting in the deaths of Philip English, his wife Kim, and their sons Callum (12) and Jayden (8). John James English, the victim's adult son from a previous marriage, says the €20,000 debt was owed by an associate, not his father. Two other children—a 14-year-old girl and a six-year-old boy—were severely burned and are being treated in critical condition at Children’s Health Ireland Crumlin.
Gardaí have seized multiple mobile phones and vehicles, and are conducting technical examinations of the crime scene, but no arrests have yet occurred. The family had previously reported intimidation and sought a council-approved home transfer after earlier attacks, including a petrol bomb to their car. The Taoiseach pledged full state resources to support the investigation and community assistance.
