Four Indonesians and a boat assistant charged with smuggling dozens of migrants in Manjung

In Manjung district, a court heard charges against boat skipper Adi Warman, 36, and his two assistants, Gading, 31, and Rafiernanda, 19, for allegedly smuggling 64 Indonesian migrants—39 men and 25 women—from Pulau Talang at about 4.30 am on Aug 18. In the same session, another crew member, Yunus Saputra, 30, was charged with a similar offence involving 40 migrants—38 Indonesians and two Vietnamese—near Pantai Hutan Kuari Sungai Batu at around 8 am that day.

Judge Azizah Ahmad presided, and deputy public prosecutor Anisah Pisol indicated that bail would not be granted because the offences are non-bailable under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012. The defendants did not enter pleas and were unrepresented. The charges fall under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 and Section 34 of the Penal Code, carrying up to 20 years imprisonment, a fine, or both. The court scheduled the next mention for Oct 27.
