Four injured after suspected welding blast shuts down Van Nuys Boulevard in Arleta

Authorities reported a suspected welding-related explosion at a construction site on Van Nuys Boulevard in Arleta on Tuesday afternoon. The blast injured four individuals; three were taken to a medical facility with injuries described as non-life-threatening, while the fourth chose not to be transported. The force of the explosion broke several first- and second-floor windows in an adjacent apartment building and prompted the closure of the roadway between Beachy and Canterbury avenues.
Helicopter footage showed a large contingent of emergency vehicles converging on the scene. The Los Angeles Fire Department led the response, with assistance from a gas company, the L.A. Department of Water and Power and the L.A. Department of Transportation, all of which remain investigating the cause.
