Four men charged after massive drug bust disrupts Calgary trafficking network

Calgary police and partner agencies seized large quantities of cocaine, fentanyl and other drugs, charging four men with trafficking offenses.

The drug operation, uncovered after a June tip, prompted a joint effort by 16 units of the Calgary Police Service, the Edmonton Police Service, the RCMP and the Canada Border Services Agency. Search warrants were executed on October 8 at four Calgary homes and one in Cochrane, resulting in the seizure of dozens of kilograms of cocaine, MDMA, methamphetamine, fentanyl and crack, plus hundreds of thousands of prescription pills and more than $2 million in cash.

Acting CPS chief Asif Rashid called the seizure one of the largest in the service’s history, emphasizing its potential to prevent widespread harm. Superintendent Jeff Bell highlighted the public-safety impact, especially regarding fentanyl. Four men—Thomas Bahta, Mohammed Ibrahim, Fozee Ibrahim and Aidan Saunders—face charges ranging from possession of property.

Why it matters

The bust removes a large supply of dangerous drugs from the streets, reducing overdose risk and disrupting a regional trafficking network.
