Four men sentenced to prison for large-scale stock fraud tied to Suomen Energianeuvonta

A Finnish district court sentenced four men to absolute imprisonment for a multi-year fraud involving shares of Suomen Energianeuvonta oy, ordering them to pay restitution to investors.

In a verdict delivered last week, the Pohjanmaa district court convicted four men for an extensive fraud centered on shares of Suomen Energianeuvonta oy. Two defendants received four-year absolute sentences, while the other two were sentenced to two years. The prosecution proved that the scheme, conducted between 2018 and 2020, presented investors with deceptive forecasts of rapid revenue growth, soaring stock values and a potential public listing.

Marketing materials exaggerated the company's business model, which claimed to cut electricity costs through the Energiaguru service. More than a hundred private investors and firms suffered financial harm, prompting the court to order the perpetrators and their associated companies to pay substantial compensation. The court described the offense as exceptionally serious and harmful, noting the perpetrators' aim of obtaining a large economic benefit.
