Four miners killed and five injured in Balochistan coal mine gas blast

A gas explosion erupted in a coal mine located in Harnai district of Balochistan, resulting in four fatalities among the miners and injuring five others. The Pakistan Army conducted a rescue mission that successfully extracted five trapped workers alive. The injured miners were subsequently moved to Quetta for further medical attention.

This tragedy adds to a series of recent mining accidents in the province, which labour unions attribute to gas accumulation, insufficient safety gear, and poor working conditions. Earlier incidents include a deadly blast in Mastung district and a July explosion in Quetta that claimed dozens of lives. Union leaders highlight that only 17 inspectors oversee nearly 3,000 mines operated by 196 companies, a figure they deem grossly insufficient.
