Four Salvadoran air force personnel go missing after gang ambush in Haiti

Four members of El Salvador's air force deployed with the UN-backed Gang Suppression Force are unaccounted for after their armored convoy was attacked near Port-au-Prince.

Four Salvadoran air force members serving in the UN-supported Gang Suppression Force disappeared after an ambush by heavily armed criminal groups in the Santo district of Port-au-Prince. Their armored vehicle was struck by explosives, igniting a fire that forced the troops to abandon the convoy. Although some personnel escaped, the four airmen could not be located afterward.

El Salvador's armed forces reported that both ground and aerial rescue attempts have been blocked by intense combat and insecure conditions. Helicopters sent from El Salvador to aid the mission also came under fire. The incident highlights the volatile security environment facing the multinational anti-gang effort in Haiti.
