At 9 am on September 25, four districts in Sarawak registered air pollutant index (API) levels classified as unhealthy, according to data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System. The Serian district police headquarters posted the highest reading at 178, followed by Kuching (166), Samarahan (165) and Sri Aman (163). The API scale marks values between 101 and 200 as unhealthy, indicating a potential health risk for residents.
Nationwide, 61 areas reported moderate air quality, including Batu Muda in Kuala Lumpur (73) and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah (63), while three locations fell into the good category. The system categorises API scores of 0-50 as good, 51-100 moderate, 101-200 unhealthy, 201-300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous. Authorities monitor these readings to advise the public on protective measures.
